UNT Safe Ride

Safe Ride Programs have been popping up around the country for almost 10 years. In 1999, Texas A&M established the first program of its kind, designed to pick up intoxicated students, called CARPOOL. Since then there have been growing numbers of student groups like this, replicating the unprecedented CARPOOL. Such as, Stephen F. Austin University, University of Missouri, James Madison University, Colorado State University, and University of Georgia.

It is an entirely student run organization providing free rides to UNT students who are intoxicated during the peak times for drinking, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10:00pm to 3:00am. The organization will obtain a telephone number that, through rigorous advertising, will be widely available and recognized by students. There will be a headquarters where members meet during the hours of service and take phone calls from students in need of a safe ride home. When a call is received, both a male and female member will go together to the destination to ensure the safety and comfort of the student passenger. So rather than driving home intoxicated, students are given access to a ride home by fellow sober students. A lot of planning is required to build the necessary foundation of this organization and we need your help!

We hold meetings every other Tuesday at 5pm in Chestnut Hall room 301
